The Motion Picture Foundation, R.O.C. announced the new Chair of Taipei Golden Horse Film Festival Executive Committee on Nov 25. Current Chair Ang LEE will hand over the responsibility to renowned cinematographer Mark LEE Ping-bing.

The Chair leads the Committee for a two-year term and may be re-elected once. Ang LEE's term of service started from February 2018 and will be due early next year. LEE noted that, "The value of Golden Horse Awards is irreplaceable. I hope the Golden Horse Awards will keep its spirit of fairness and openness, as well as its enthusiasm and respect to filmmakers and their works. I appreciate Mark LEE for accepting this great responsibility as Chairperson. His achievement in cinema is well recognized worldwide, and he is beloved and respected in the Chinese-language cinema circuit. Mark knows the Golden Horse Awards well and has been a great supporter, and thus I believe he can lead the Committee and the festival forward. I will also keep participating in the Golden Horse Awards in the future whenever possible."

Mark LEE Ping-bing has won seven Golden Horse Awards for Best Cinematography, and he is the record keeper in this category,. He also received awards for his achievement in Cannes Film Festival and Berlinale. He has worked with HOU Hsiao-hsien, WONG Kar-wai, Ann HUI, Sylvia CHANG, JIANG Wen and Patrick TAM, reached out to the world with KORE-EDA Hirokazu, TR N Anh Hùng and Gilles BOURDOS, and unreservedly promoted the newcomers. In 2009, Golden Horse Film Festival curated a Filmmaker-In-Focus section to introduce his work and published the book Mark Lee Ping-Bing: A Poet of Light and Shadow. In 2016, Museum of Modern Art in New York also curated a special program for him. LEE has served as the Chairperson for Taipei Film Festival between 2016 and 2020.

Mark LEE noted, "Ang LEE has deep affection for the Taipei Golden Horse Film Festival Executive Committee and the festival, so he reached out several times to discuss with me the possibility of taking over the position of Chair. I'd like to thank the Motion Picture Foundation for their approval. It's a huge responsibility and I also think it is a way for me to repay the place nurturing me. It is an honor to serve the cinema circuit. I sincerely trust the Golden Horse team and will depend on their professionalism."
