May You Stay Forever Young Won the NETPAC Award

2021 NETPAC Award, a collaboration between Taipei Golden Horse Film Festival and The Network for the Promotion of Asian Cinema, goes to May You Stay Forever Young by Rex REN and LAM Sam; American Girl, which tops the audience choice chart for several days, gets a nod by winning the Asian Cinema Observation Group Award, selected by cinephiles.
NETPAC Award is established by Network for Promotion of Asia Cinema in promotion of Asian cinema, and has been presented in over 30 film festivals, among them Taipei Golden Horse Film Festival started to give this award in 2007. Jury of this year's NETPAC Award praises the winning film May You Stay Forever Young for it is a spontaneous project that makes the impossible possible, to interweave reality and representation with extremely low cost, demonstrating the courage of the youngster as they fight under tough circumstances.
The team of May You Stay Forever Young noted, "this is a Hong Kong film made against all odds and cannot be screened in Hong Kong. Many people have contributed to its completion yet remain anonymous, simply make their voice from the darkness be heard". They also quoted from a veteran 'wherever this film can be screened, there will be freedom.' Thank you, Taiwan; thank you, NETPAC. To Freedom."
Asian Cinema Observation Group, comprised of 15 cinephile from varied fields, have selected American Girl by Taiwanese director Fiona ROAN Feng-i for recommendation. They noted the well balance and mixture of Chinese diasporas, self-identity, family portrayal, mother-daughter relationship and growth in this movie, within a complete and fluent narrative plus the accurate yet natural dialogues.
Director Fiona ROAN Feng-i noted that it means a great deal to the whole team to be recognized by film critics of the same generation. American Girl is a family letter but also a love letter to the millennium.
