The 2019 Golden Horse Film Project Promotion (FPP) has drawn to a perfect close as new-generation director LIEN Chien-hung’s Salli is declared the winner of the TWD 1,000,000 Grand Prize at Taipei New Horizon. A Taiwan-UK co-production, Salli tells the tale of a middle-aged chicken farmer whose search for love takes her on an unexpected adventure. Highly imaginative yet not detached from reality, its empathetic plot is as convincing as any real-life news story. Apart from capturing the Grand Prize decided unanimously by a final-stage jury comprising WANG Toon, Jonathan H. KIM and OSAKA Fumiko, Salli also received the FPP MME Creative Award and the MirrorFiction Screenplay Award, becoming the first project to take home three cash prizes at the Golden Horse FPP.

Held from November 19 to 21, this year’s Golden Horse FPP facilitated nearly 1,200 meetings for representatives of the 39+8 selected projects across three intensive days, earning rave reviews from participants. All of this year’s selected projects demonstrate tremendous potential in terms of style, thematic creativity and genre, bringing even more anticipation to the future of the Chinese-language film market.
